Do you get upset if you’re not first? Watch this video of the Alphabuddies Picture Book

Sep 19, 2023

What makes you upset? Do you get cranky when you have to wait? What if someone else is always first and you are always behind them? That’s surely frustrating! And that’s how the letter “g” feels in my new book, Alphabuddies: G Is First, from HarperCollins. This picture book is co-authored by Karen Kane and illustrated by Eric Barclay. Check out this video:

In this video, the letter “g” is reading an alphabet book: a b c d e f g. Author Karen Kane uses American Sign Language to say: a b c d e f g. We see that the letter “g” is crying! WAAAAAAA! Karen Kane signs: “The letter “g” is not happy! Do you want to know why?” Inside the book the letter “g” says: “Because “a” is first. “a” is always first. I want to be first. “a” will not take turns! That is not right! That is not fair! Everyone should take turns.” The letter “a” says NO! The letters “g” and “z” are sad about this. The next slide shows the book Alphabuddies: G Is First by Beth Bacon and Karen Kane, illustrated by Eric Barclay. The final slide are “g” and “z” saying: “We all have to take turns!”

Karen Kane works as an American Sign Language interpreter — that’s an important job! In this video, Karen Kane signs the information! Can you tell what she is saying? If not, there are words on the screen that you or someone nearby can read the subtitles for you.
