Audiobooks are awesome! And now my new book, The Panda Cub Swap, is available in Audiobook format. This is super cool for me because it’s my first audiobook. But it’s also cool for YOU, the reader for lots of reasons. Why? Here are fiver reasons to love this new audiobook.
- Comprehension! Researchers say that listening to an audiobook while reading helps increase comprehension by 52%. Don’t believe me? I found another source which set the figure at 76%… And another that says combining print and audio increases recall by 40% over print alone. So let’s just agree listening to an audiobook definitely helps reading.
- Pronunciation! The Panda Cub Swap contains several non-English words (you know Pandas come from China!). The producers of the audiobook were very thoughtful in their pronunciation. Ahead of the recording they asked me about the accurate pronunciation of certain words. To get it right, I asked my friend Mei Ling to pronounce the words and we even made a recording. The narrator, Liz Terry, was able to hear a native speaker to guide the accuracy of the Chinese names.
- Auditory learners get lots of love. An auditory learner is someone who not only understands concepts by listening, but they also store information in their minds by the way it sounds. I have seen statistics that say 27% of kindergarteners are audio learners.
- Dyslexic kids get lots of love, too! People with dyslexia struggle reading written words. I’ve heard that 20% of elementary schoolchildren are diagnosed with some form of dyslexia. That’s a lot of kids who will gain a sense of satisfaction by listening to this audiobook.
- The voice of this narrator, Liz Terry, is pure gold. This narrator is a real pro and the sound of her voice is like a cool breeze on a warm day. You can hear some other audiobooks narrated by Liz Terry by clicking on the following links:
