“Covid-19 Helpers” Honored in 2021 Bank Street Best Book List

Sep 16, 2021

Every year, Bank Street College of Education in NYC publishes a list of the Best Children’s Books of the Year. The 2021 list includes books published in 2020, and as we all know, the year was characterized by the global Covid-19 pandemic. So it’s fitting that one of the  titles chosen by the Children’s Book Committee was my book, Covid-19 Helpers.
According to the Bank Street site, they describe the selection process this way:
In choosing books for the annual list, reviewers consider literary quality and excellence of presentation as well as the potential emotional impact of the books on young readers. Other criteria include credibility of characterization and plot, authenticity of time and place, age suitability, positive treatment of ethnic and religious differences, and the absence of stereotypes. Each book accepted for the list is read and reviewed by at least two committee members and then discussed by the committee as a whole.
